Radon & Testing Process
Radon, an invisible and odorless poisonous gas emitted by the decay of radioactive elements such as uranium, enters homes through foundation cracks and holes. Prolonged exposure to radon can lead to lung cancer as the gas breaks down into harmful radioactive particles called radon progeny that can accumulate in the lungs. The US Environmental Protection Agencies place Cook and DuPage county in the moderate risk range.

Radon testing takes more than 2 days. The radon tester must gain access to the residence and set up the test. The test takes hourly readings for 48 hours. During testing, the doors and windows must remain closed. After the test equipment is picked up, a report is generated and sent to you.

The Environmental Protection Agency recommends mitigation if the average of the hourly radon readings is 4 picocuries or greater.
